It's been so long since I've done a blog post or running update. All summer, running has been my primary mode of fitness. When I last posted, I had just run my first 6 miler with Team Playmakers and was stoked! I've continued to run with the team almost every Saturday throughout the summer alternating back and forth between starting at the store and at Hawk Island County Park. Can you believe that I've actually gotten up at 6:30 am every Saturday morning just to run?! If you knew me before, you never would have guessed this. The collective running wisdom of the team, the coaches, and my new running buddies has carried me farther (literally and figuratively) than I ever thought that I'd go and I am now registered for and have been training for not one, but TWO half marathons. In preparation for the Capital City River Run Half, I've been following the team training schedule and have had some pretty successful long runs on Saturdays. I've tested out clothes, shoes, socks, and various methods of fueling. At this point I prefer running capris (sick of my thighs eating the running shorts), Balega socks, my Mizuno Elixir 8's, and Honey Stinger waffers. I've tried Gu....yuck! It gave me energy, but it was way too tough to get down. I still love my Asics, but the Mizuno shoes have more room in the toes so that I can avoid getting any more black toenails. Oh yeah, I almost forgot! I know that I'm a real runner now because I have black toenails on the longest toe on each foot from wearing my shoes too small. I'm grateful that Playmakers let me exchange my 9 1/2s for a size 10. Works so much better for me when my feet start to heat up and swell during the 8 - 12 milers. I'm currently running four - five days a week with rest days on Monday and Friday (sometimes Wednesday if I'm not feeling it). A typical week as of late has been 4 miles on each of the days during the week, a long run 8 - 12 miles on Saturday, and 5 miles on Sunday. I would not have been able to get through some of my long runs if it were not for my running buddies on Team P. Here's a few pics.

AuthorMy name is Missy! I'm a mom, high school teacher, dog lover, MSU alum and Spartan football and basketball fan (Go Green!), addicted to gadgets, and I started this blog feeling woefully inadequate when it came to health and fitness. After turning 36 and realizing that I'm that much closer to 40, I figured that I'd better get my butt in gear, fitness gear...literally! Archives
